Computing
Admission criteria
No portfolio is listed as a required or standard admissions component for BEng Computing on the official course and undergraduate application pages. Applicants are assessed through the UCAS application, academic record, and required TMUA; any project work can only be described within the personal statement rather than submitted as a formal portfolio.
Imperial says the UCAS personal statement is a really important part of the application and helps admissions tutors judge fit for the course. For this program, the statement should show genuine motivation for computing, subject-specific enthusiasm, and how studies and relevant experiences have prepared the applicant. It matters, but it is considered alongside strong grades and TMUA rather than replacing them.
Academic performance is a decisive factor. Imperial publishes very high minimum and typical offers for Computing, including A*A*A-A*AAA at A-level with A* in Mathematics, and similarly strong international requirements such as 41 points minimum / 42 typical in the IB with 7 in Higher Level Mathematics and 7 in another relevant subject. Admissions tutors first check that applications meet minimum entry requirements, and the program is academically selective.
Test scores are heavily emphasized because TMUA is required for eligibility and Imperial states that if TMUA performance is sufficient, it is considered together with the UCAS application, and TMUA performance in combination with full application review informs whether to make an offer. Applicants must also meet Imperial's standard English-language requirement for this course; Imperial's English requirements page lists standard-level examples such as IELTS 6.5 overall with at least 6.0 in all elements.
