Overview
For Mahidol University's bachelor-level Doctor of Medicine, the clearest current official criteria for applicants educated in international schools in Thailand or abroad are published by the Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital under TCAS Round 1 Portfolio for academic year 2026. In this route, Mahidol strongly screens for excellent academics, requires English-test minimums, and evaluates a full portfolio that includes a personal statement.

Admission criteria

PortfolioHigh

High emphasis. The official Ramathibodi Medicine TCAS Portfolio route requires a portfolio with CV, up to 10 activities/work samples plus evidence, and states that ranking uses the portfolio score with overall portfolio quality considered holistically rather than any one item alone. The faculty says it values quality of activities/work that reflect the applicant's identity, strengths, and qualities suited to studying medicine more than sheer quantity.

Statement of PurposeMedium

Medium emphasis. A personal statement is a required part of the portfolio and must explain the applicant's reasons and motivation for applying, why they chose Ramathibodi, what qualities make them suitable for becoming a Ramathibodi doctor, and the biggest challenge of studying medicine in the chosen track. It matters clearly, but the program describes it as one required component inside the broader portfolio rather than a separate dominant score.

Academics & GPAHigh

High emphasis. The program sets strict academic thresholds: cumulative GPA/GPAX must be at least 3.50, and applicants must present one complete academic system showing strong Biology, Chemistry, and Mathematics or Physics performance, such as subject GPAs at least 3.50 or A-Level/IB/AP results meeting high cutoffs. Mahidol's university-wide GPAX sheet also lists 3.50 as the minimum for Ramathibodi Medicine Portfolio tracks.

Test scoresMedium

medium emphasis. English test scores are required for this international-school Portfolio route: Advanced Talent track requires at least TOEFL iBT 80 or IELTS 6.5, and Global Excellence requires at least TOEFL iBT 105 or IELTS 7.5. ACT is not mandatory and is only an optional supporting score for Global Excellence, so test scores matter clearly but are not the sole driver.

How to stand out
Keep the portfolio selective: include only activities and work samples that show clear impact, responsibility, and fit for medicine rather than trying to fill all 10 slots.
Write the personal statement around concrete motivation for medicine and Ramathibodi, plus specific qualities you already demonstrate through your work and activities.
Prioritize strong Biology, Chemistry, and Mathematics or Physics results, and present one complete academic system cleanly rather than mixing partial systems.
Meet the English threshold early; for Global Excellence, aim well above the minimum because the bar is substantially higher.
If your transcript uses a non-GPA system, prepare official conversion or supporting curriculum/syllabus documents so the science subjects can be evaluated properly.
